Artificial Intelligence Advances in Technology

Artificial Intelligence has been on the rise in recent years and it is expected to continue doing so. What is Artificial Intelligence, you ask? Artificial Intelligence is a technology that allows a computer to emulate human intelligence and respond accordingly. Put another way, it can tell if an image or video of a horse is labelled “horse” and then label other pictures as such automatically. The only issue with the technology is that right now it isn’t good enough for practical use, but progress is being made quickly.

An exciting development in the field of AI has been in “machine learning.” This can be described as a computer program running through many different examples of something to gather information on how to respond correctly. For example, if you are talking about your friend Timmy who plays baseball, the program would take all the examples where people say Timmy plays baseball or talks about Timmy playing baseball and then infer that he is a baseball player. Machine learning takes many different examples and infers patterns in them to make generalizations based on them. The more information available, the better results it yields. In addition, programmers are currently working on ways for the programs to gather data without needing as much information.

One of the biggest challenges with machine learning is teaching a computer to learn how to do something better simply by being told what it previously did wrong. This can be taught through algorithms, but also requires human input for best results. An example of this would be making an AI program that detects if there are any people in front of it so it doesn’t hit them while driving or predicting stock prices based on trends. If someone were to tell the program that it made a mistake, then its next prediction will likely be closer to accurate because it has learned from its mistakes.

However, scientists have only just begun working on these issues and many other problems could arise in the future. With that being said, Artificial Intelligence is still progressing at a rapid rate and programmers are getting closer to having computers that can think like humans with every passing year.

These advancements have led to breakthroughs in societal fields outside of just technology, such as medicine and engineering. For example, researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) have developed their own algorithm that helps doctors detect breast cancer with 99% accuracy. This marks a huge improvement over traditional methods which require 70% accuracy. It also reduces the number of false negatives and false positives. This new system is called Deep Learning, as it uses multiple layers of algorithms to process the image (or video) data.

Smaller breakthroughs also make a huge difference on their own. One such example is an iPhone app designed by engineers at MIT that can help those who suffer from sleep apnea. The app is placed somewhere near the bed and detects snoring and other sleeping disorder symptoms via a microphone. It then sends this information to doctors who can help treat these problems.

Another advancement in Artificial Intelligence has been the development of chatbots – computer programs that converse with humans via text message or voice command. These bots can be programmed to give specific responses based on what users of them, such as Siri, have told them. This is a huge step for science, as most people who use Siri do so because they cannot interact with a computer otherwise. The

more we can communicate with computers and give them tasks, the more we can get done. However, while chatbots provide a lot of information for scientists to work with, they still lack understanding and do not really comprehend what they are saying to other users. This makes it difficult for bots to learn from humans through conversation to perform any complex task.

These advancements in technology also lead to economic benefits beyond the general public. The healthcare industry has been struggling financially for years and many doctors assume that AI will play a role in future operations. By reducing human error and increasing efficiency, these programs could save companies billions of dollars per year. Even better, all of this can be done without sacrificing the quality of care the patient receives. Similarly, engineers are using AI programs to design new bridges and roadways, rendering older methods obsolete.

Overall, Artificial Intelligence is proving useful everywhere from hospitals to cars. With these amazing advances being made at an exponential rate, it is only a matter of time before they reach the public.
